One year after WWII, projectile-like objects crossed Scandinavian skies, some reportedly crashing into lakes; Swedish military dredging found nothing. With Soviet-occupied Peenemünde nearby, the assumption was Russian tests of captured V-weapons — never substantiated. The Swedish and U.S. militaries took it seriously enough to classify findings; it is the first state-investigated UFO wave and the bridge between wartime foo fighters and 1947.
Skeptical note
Meteors (1946 had strong bolide activity including the Perseid-rich summer) plus post-war invasion anxiety explain the pattern for most analysts.
