Linda Moulton Howe is an Emmy Award-winning investigative documentary journalist whose television career, including work for network affiliates and HBO, established her professional credentials before she turned her investigative methods toward two intertwined subjects: unexplained cattle mutilations and alleged government secrecy around UFOs. Her 1980 documentary A Strange Harvest examined cattle mutilation cases in Colorado with the same procedural rigor she brought to conventional investigative journalism, and her subsequent book An Alien Harvest (1989) expanded the research, arguing that the precise, bloodless surgical patterns reported in many mutilation cases could not be adequately explained by predation or routine decomposition, a claim that remains disputed by veterinary pathologists who attribute most cases to scavenger activity and normal decay processes.
