Behind the Flying Saucers
A Variety magazine columnist reported claims from two con men (posing as scientists) of multiple captured saucers and dead alien crews in the New Mexico desert. The sources were exposed as a swindle in a 1952 True magazine investigation, but the book had already sold widely and pioneered the crash-retrieval narrative template Roswell literature would later inherit.
