The Calvine photograph is a striking 1990 image taken near the village of Calvine in Perthshire, Scotland, showing a large, diamond-shaped object hovering in daylight with a Harrier jet apparently visible flying nearby in the same frame — a combination of a structured object and a corroborating aircraft in the same photograph that made it, in the assessment of many photo analysts who have reviewed it, one of the strongest single UFO images ever captured. The photograph was submitted to a British tabloid newspaper shortly after it was taken, then passed to the UK Ministry of Defence for evaluation and effectively disappeared from public view for over three decades, with researchers and the original photographers unable to obtain its return or an official account of what the MoD's analysis had concluded. The image finally resurfaced publicly in 2022, reigniting the debate over its authenticity from scratch: some analysts who have examined the resurfaced print treat it as among the best-attested UFO photographs on record given the aircraft corroboration, while skeptics note the object's static, diamond-like symmetry is also consistent with a suspended model or a carefully staged prop, and that three decades of custody by a single government department with no public chain-of-evidence record makes independent verification of the original negative extremely difficult.
